Sengoku 11th Battle Quick Results - Omigawa Wins Stunner, Gono Calls Out Hornbuckle

Early Saturday morning in North America the 22 competitors of World Victory Roads “Sengoku 11th Battle” event squared off at the Ryogoku Kokugikan (aka Sumo Hall) in Tokyo, Japan.

Another questionable call by ring officials awarded a victory to Japanese featherweight Michihiro Omigawa over Hatsu Hioki. In a bout that appeared to have gone Hioki’s way, officials awarded his opponent the split decision victory, one that Omigawa told the crowd he disagreed with.

The loss ended Hioki’s nine fight win streak, while improving Omigawa’s record to 4-1 in his past five matches.

Former UFC fighter Akihiro Gono looked to end a three fight win streak against Yoon Young Kim. In his return since a devastating August knockout to Dan Hornbuckle, Gono did just enough to control the fight and win a unanimous decision victory. After the bout Gono had a message for Hornbuckle.

Speaking in perfect English, Gono said:

I have a message for Dan Hornbuckle, though I know he’s not here right now. I have something to say to him that I couldn’t say after we fought, since I was completely knocked unconscious and didn’t come to my senses for four hours. So, tonight, I have a message for him.

So, Dan, first of all, congratulations on your victory against me in August. I think it was a big victory for you, and it was a big, big loss for me… but a good wake-up call.

Thanks to you, I’m completely woke up and have been training much harder than before. Now, I believe myself to be much better than before, much better than when you faced me. So, I want to rematch you. And for that to happen, I want you to win the title on New Year’s Eve, and I’ll keep training hard to be the first challenger for that title. I hope to see you in the ring before the end of next year.
