Mike Swick vs. Dan Hardy At UFC 105 Will Determine No. 1 Middleweight Contender

UFC UK president Marshall Zelaznik has confirmed a fight between Mike “Quick” Swick (14-2) and Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy (22-6-0(1)) for UFC 105. The winner will go on to fight UFC welterweight champion George St-Pierre for the belt.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the fight was in the works on Sunday night after Hardy’s original opponent, Dong-Hyun Kim, was forced to withdraw due to an injury.

FanHouse.com was the first to report the change and has since confirmed the bout.

UFC 105 will take place at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England on Nov. 14. The event will be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between mma legend Randy Couture and Brandon Vera.

Swick had been scheduled to fight Martin Kampmann earlier this month at UFC 103 in a No. 1 contender’s bout, but Kampmann suffered a concussion and was forced to withdraw a few weeks before the bout. Swick is looking to challenge GSP for the welterweight title and has gone 4-0 since moving to the welterweight division. He defeated Ben Saunders in his last match at UFC 99, winning via TKO in the second round.

Hardy confirmed the injury to Kim today on his official website. He’s won six bouts in a row and looks to go 4-0 in the UFC against Swick. Hardy also competed at UFC 99 against Marcus Davis, winning a split decision.

“I think this is the fight of the night,” said Hardy of the matchup with Swick. “My style will gel very well with Mike’s, we both come from kickboxing backgrounds, we both have very fast strikes, and there’s so much on the line for us both. I want to thank Joe Silva and the UFC for offering me this chance less than a year since my UFC debut. UFC fans haven’t seen the best of me yet; but they will at UFC 105.”

The only bouts that have been made official for UFC 105 is a light-heavyweight bout between Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera and a middleweight match between Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang.
