Strikeforce looks to stack it’s November 7 show on CBS by adding a heavyweight bout between Fabrício Werdum (12-4-1) and Antônio “Bigfoot” Silva (13-1).
According to sources close to the fighters, the former UFC fighter will likely face the former EliteXC champion Antônio “Bigfoot” Silva in November 7 event. TATAME.com just learned the fight was agreed, and spoke with Werdum about the possibility.
“My manager called me asking if I agree to fight him, and I said yes and that I was ready, but I think this fight won’t happen anymore”, Werdum said. “He’ll probably fight for Sengoku’s title. Strikeforce made a partnership with Dream, so my manager said I can also fight in Japan, at Dream.”
Werdum’s last win came during Strikeforce’s Aug. 15 “Carano vs. Cyborg” event where he defeated Mike Kyle in the first round via submission (guillotine choke). The win came after a defeat in Oct of 2005, putting him 1-1 in his past two but 3-1 in his past four bouts.
Meanwhile, Silva will go into the fight with a six fight win streak after defeating Jim York at the Sengoku 10 event on Sept. 23. The fight will mark Silva’s first on American soil since his suspension in July of 2008 for a positive steroid test.
