Brett Rogers: I’ll definitely be the bigger, taller, stronger fighter. I know he’s fought some guys who are bigger, like [7-foot-2 Korean kickboxer Hong Man Choi], but he’s never fought someone who brings the kind of challenges that I’m going to bring into the cage. He hasn’t been hit the way I’ll hit him. FanHouse: How many more fights do you have on your Strikeforce contract? Brett Rogers: Two more. Cunha is confident in his fighter and believes that his opponent, Emelianenko, will try and keep the fight standing when they meet at the Strikeforce event in Chicago. Tatame: Brett has only ten fights and he will face the world’s number one. How do you see that? Sérgio Cunha: It’s a gold chance. He’ll have the chance that a few had against the best pound for pound fighter and this chance is an amazing thing, and at the same time is a big pressure, the athlete can’t think too much about it. If the guy thinks and respects Fedor, he won’t fight… He has to have the control and execute inside the cage everything that he trained.

The 40 year old spoke to FanHouse.com about his upcoming bout and the answered questions about why he wasn’t fighting in the UFC. I don’t know who you have to beat me at 155. Who? Clay Guida? Sean Sherk? I had a fight with Sean Sherk and he turned it down. Because my strength is their strength but I’m better at it. I’m the best wrestler in mixed martial arts right now. There’s only one guy that’s running neck-to-neck with me and that’s Mo Lawal. And Mo would tell you the same thing, “McKee is probably the best wrestler in the game [of MMA].” Pound for pound? 155 pounds? I’m not trying to be cocky. I’m just telling it as it is.
Brett Rogers wants Alistair Overeem to either fight to defend his Strikeforce title, or to give it up. Either way it’s apparent that Rogers doesn’t think that Overeem’s injuries are the only reason for the lack of title defenses. Here’s the quote, via Pro MMA Radio:
On Strikeforce - On the UFC - There are so many things possible in a short time, maybe I lose two times and the UFC doesn’t want me at all. That’s why I focus on one fight at a time. My goal in the future is of course to become UFC champion but I’m not in a rush. I’m happy with Strikeforce now and that’s the most important things. I’m now champion and want to defend with honor and dignity. It’s up to fighters like Fedor, Alistair and me to show great fights and make Strikeforce look good. I still believe Strikeforce is the company with the most growth potential. By the way maybe the UFC champions will come to Strikeforce and challenges us for the belt (laughs). (more…)
