There Will Be Blood, And A Fistful Of Points

It's still almost impossible for me to play songs with repetitive double bass beats. Hard Day's Night is a good example--it's on the lowest tier in terms of difficulty, and I can 99% it at 90% speed, but at 100% speed, I just can't keep my foot working long enough. I can five-star it, but my score...

The Beatles: Rock Band, LEGO Rock Band, And Band Hero

I don't know how anyone has time to play more than one instrument, let alone more than one game. Once I started playing the drums, it's taken almost 100% of my time, just because of the sheer amount of learning required to get better. So even without LRB, there are oceans of content I'm not even t...

Ümloud

Just like last year’s San Francisco edition of Fünde Razor, which raised over $2,300 for Child’s Play, we’ll be playing Rock Band. But this time we’ll be up on a massive stage. And this time, Harmonix will be bringing the gear, meaning that we won’t just have a few songs — we’ll have almost 1000...

Dan Rosensweig Takes The Swim That Needs No Towel

Dan Rosensweig, head of the Guitar Hero division at Activision, told the Financial Times it had seen no impact from the heavily-marketed Beatles game. “It did not affect our sales”. He added that Guitar Hero outsold Rock Band by four to one in the US and nine to one in other markets.

The Beatles: Rock Band Impressions (360)

Let's start with the basic functional differences between TB: RB and Rock Band 2. harmonies no freestyle drum or guitar sections no unlocking of songs (well, except for the "secret" ending song). All songs are immediately playable via the Quickplay mode.

Marketing

I've always felt that in the past, Guitar Hero was far more aggressively and effectively marketed than Rock Band. Guitar Hero had the additional advantage in that it already had an established reputation (ironically enough, largely due to Harmonix, who makes Rock Band).

Post E3 Notes

Everyone loved this game. I have no idea how anyone could not love this game. It's clear from the trailers that Harmonix has lavished an enormous amount of attention on the details, and it looks letter-perfect. Here's a trailer to show you what I mean: The Beatles: Rock Band trailer.

Design Brilliance And The Timing Window

The timing window is a sleight of hand that is unbelievably elegant. Even though I know better, when I'm playing the drums in Rock Band I feel like I'm hearing what I'm playing. That's the kind of elegance that permeates Rock Band and the first two Guitar Hero games (common element: Harmonix).

Gaming Links And Notes

First off, Harmonix announced Lego Rock Band this week, and after an initial WTF moment, I think the idea of making a more kid-friendly and kid-specialized version of Rock Band is a terrific idea. Since they're much smarter than I am, I would have given them the benefit of the doubt, anyway.

Gaming Links And Notes

First off, that AFI song in Rock Band 2 is a bitch on Expert drums.

Tommy DeCarlo Owns the World (part two)

If you're thinking that games are like that, too, you're right. That's why I thought Guitar Hero was in serious trouble when the developers changed from Harmonix to Neversoft--it was like John Lennon, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney leaving the Beatles, but letting Ringo Starr keep...
