Tim Sylvia And Houston Alexander Victorious At Adrenaline MMA IV Event

Both Tim Sylvia (25-6) and Houston Alexander (9-4) walked away with first round TKO victories on Friday night during the Adrenaline MMA IV event at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Syliva, who weighed in at 287 pounds, stopped Jason Riley (6-2) at 2:32 of the first round after catching the Ohio-based fighter with a left knocking him down. Sylvia swooped in quickly forcing the referee to stop the fight.

For the former UFC heavyweight champion, this is the first victory for him since Oct. 2007, when he defeated Brandon Vera at UFC 77.

Alexander won a lopsided fight against Sherman Pendergarst (11-15) in the first round at 1:51. Using low kicks to unsteady his opponent, Alexander followed it up with several knees knocking Pendergarst down to the mat forcing him to cover up. The former UFC fighter followed it up with several punches before the referee called a stop to the fight.

Alexander needed the win, as he had lost three in a row, and another loss would certainly end his UFC career. He had been scheduled to fight Andre Gusamo at UFC 98 but a broken hand suffered during training put a stop to that.
