Throughout the day the big news has been the withdrawal of UFC welterweight Karo ‘The Heat’ Parisyan (18-5(1)) from his UFC 106 bout against Dustin Hazelett. The news was posted by UFC president Dana White, via his Twitter site, who said Parisyan will never fight in the UFC again.

Speculation has run rampant all day as to why Parisyan backed out at the last minute. FiveOuncesOfPain.com seems to have the answer.

Longtime friend and training partner to Karo, along with being the head Jiu-Jitsu instructor down at Xtreme Couture, Neil Melanson recently received Parisyan’s blessing to clear the air regarding the circumstances surrounding his recent withdraw from Saturday evening’s card.

Karo Parisyan has suffered from a brutal battle with an addiction to pain-killers for some time now. The Armenian born Judo specialist was first introduced to the widely addictive drugs following a severe hamstring injury sustained training for a scheduled welterweight title clash with Matt Hughes that never came to fruition. A long series of injuries following the injury that prevented what would have been the biggest fight of his career has created the monster that currently haunts Karo today.

To recap the day since this is the first report by The MMA News, UFC president Dana White posted the following messages from his Twitter site earlier today.

Karo Parisyan has f****d over the UFC, the fans and his opponent again!!! He will not be fighting saturday or ever again in the UFC!!

Pulled out of the fight the day before weigh ins again with a laundry list of excuses!!! Let the press ask karo why! Let him explain.

It would appear that White has had enough of Parisyan banning him from the UFC.

Parisyan has had problems in the past, withdrawing from a UFC 88 bout against Yoshiyuki Yoshid just before the weigh-ins due to a back injury. Problems continued to follow him to UFC 94 where he fought Dong Hyun Kim, winning a split decision victory which was changed to a No-Contest after failing a drug test. Parisyan tested positive for banned painkillers hydrocodone, hydromorphone, and oxymorphone. Even before the fight, it was rumored he might bow out as the UFC had Rick Story waiting in the wings as a replacement.

‘The Heat’ talked to MMAWeekly.com telling them that the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) wouldn’t issue him with a license because he couldn’t afford the $32,000 fine he received for his failed drug test after UFC 94.

Related stories:

“There’s a lot of problems going on. They won’t re-license me unless I (expletive) pay them,” Parisyan told MMAWeekly.com. “I had to pay the $32,000 fine in order to fight. I never paid because I never had the money. I don’t know if I’ll be able to come back.”

The Executive Director of the NSAC, Keith Kizer, refutes Parisyan’s claims saying he is more surprised than anyone at these allegations.

“That reason makes no sense to me,” Kizer told FanHouse at Thursday’s UFC 106 press conference. “That’s inaccurate. He understood that we would be taking that money out of his purse and he would be walking away with either his fine paid in full or he would walk out at the end of the night with his half his fine paid, so it was no issue with the fine whatsoever. He and I had worked out a good solution to it. I’m not sure why he pulled out of the fight at all.”

Kizer goes on to explain to FanHouse.com the negotiations between the NSAC and Parisyan for paying the fine. Basically ‘The Heat’ would have paid part of his fine out of his “show” money, which is reportedly $40k, and out of his “win” bonus, another $40k. If there was no “win” bonus then the NSAC would have been happy to take it out of his next UFC paycheck in the state of Nevada.

Which now leads us back to the post by FiveOuncesOfPain.com, which looking at the facts, makes more sense. If Parisyan did fight against Hazelett another drug test would come back showing a positive result for banned substance use. Who knows what exactly Karo was thinking but when people are desperate they can do some very strange things.
