One of mixed martial arts legends, Frank Shamrock (23-10-2), plans on competing for another eight years before he retires.
He recently had surgery to remove a plate from his forearm after a bad break and he wears the piece of metal like a trophy around his neck.
Talking to FanHouse.com, the former UFC and WEC light-heavyweight champ, as well as former Strikeforce middleweight title holder, talked about his future prospects within the sport of MMA.
“I’m looking at fighting for eight more years,” Shamrock told FanHouse on Wednesday. “I’m in good shape, and this is what I do. I’m a martial artist.”
“I’m not going to be the guy I was when I was in my 20s,” Shamrock acknowledged. “No one is. That doesn’t mean I can’t keep fighting into my 40s.”
“If they give the next middleweight title shot to me, it’s because I have a famous name,” Shamrock said. “It would be because it would bring in TV viewers, not because I’ve earned it.”
Shamrock last fought on April 11 against Nick Diaz in a catch-weight fight of 179 pounds. Diaz won the bout via TKO in the second round of the Strikeforce show.

“We talk to everybody. We’re never going to say no, we like MMA and you know like I said, Strikeforce put on a great show for us tonight and we’re very happy with Strikeforce but we’re not going to close the door on anybody.” The result? Not many “real” MMA fans watched the show.
