Fitch was a guest on this past weeks HDNet episode of “Inside MMA” where he felt a victory at UFC 111 should make him the undisputed No.2 welterweight in the UFC. Action film star Jackie Chan was asked recently about his thoughts on the sport of mixed martial arts during a press conference for his upcoming movie “The Spy Next Door.” Apparently Chan is not a fan of the sport. “I don’t like to see Ultimate Fighting,” Chan said. “As a martial artist, I find it too violent putting them in a cage. At the end, it’s not fighting anymore. That’s not the martial arts. Martial arts is about respect. When somebody is knocked down, stop. I really respect Sugar Ray Leonard. Come on, [when a guy is down] stop. Don’t fight. That’s not the spirit. When you’re down, I’ll grab you up. Are you okay? Should we continue? That’s the martial arts spirit. That’s what I want.”

He was defeated by Justin Wren in the opening elimination round of the show.

Frank Mir bout set for UFC 111. White further elaborated that the winner of the Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Nogueira bout at UFC 110 would become the number one contender for the title(after the winner of Carwin vs. Mir, but they would recieve a shot if the winner of that bout was unable to fight in the summer).

Luck very nearly wasn’t on Hrynchyshyn’s side in his last outing, but the fight certainly proved one thing. Faced with adversity, the six-foot-one 170-pounder is able to pull himself out of the fire and, in the case of the fight against Jesse MacDougall, put the heat right back on his opponent. Badly cut and up against some dangerous ground-and-pound action, Hrynchyshyn was in danger for a spell, but reversed his fortunes and roughed up MacDougall until the referee had no choice but to step in at 4:29 of Round 2. It was a far cry from his first outing when Hrynchyshyn needed all of 45 seconds to finish his outgunned foe, but it served as a stepping stone and learning experience for a developing fighter.

With the recent rumors of a debut bout between former Pride lightweight champion Takanori Gomi (31-5) and himself, ‘MMA Live’ co-host and UFC fighter Kenny Florian (12-4) sees a fight with the Japanese fighter as the first step in the path back to a lightweight title fight. “It’s a fight that I think I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, ever since Gomi was the best over in PRIDE, so Gomi’s obviously a legend in the sport and those are the kind of guys that I want to challenge myself with,” Florian said from Los Angeles, where he was working with ESPN on an undisclosed project. “The quickest road back to the title is beating great fighters like Gomi.”

Tatame: With the Brock Lesnar moved away for indeterminate time, the UFC must create a temporary belt in the dispute between the Frank Mir and the Shane Carwin. Do you find it just? Dos Santos: I find that it is not just, I find that (Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira) was in the time to dispute the belt and would be more just to dispute it, but as it does not follow the MMA rankings, it has to follow the decisions of the UFC. Tatame: You have some you bet? Dos Santos: It is half difficult… I find that it goes to be the same thing as Frank Mir against (Cheick) Kongo. If the fight will be standing, Carwin has more possibilities, but, if it will be on the ground, Mir has more possibilities. I go to be on of the wall, I do not have a favourite person or thing (laughs).
With 32 professional MMA bouts under his belt, Daley isn’t taking Hazelett for granted. Although Hazelett was a late replacement for an injured Carlos Condit, a victory for ‘Semtex’ could help propel him towards the UFC welterweight title in 2010. I’ve always had ambitions to fight for the UFC title and that is definitely something I want to achieve in 2010. I don’t just want to compete for it; I want to win it. I don’t care who holds the title at the time – I want to take that belt and put it around my waist. The UFC title means so much to me, simply because the UFC itself was the reason I first got started as a mixed martial artist. The UFC probably started everyone off, except for the Gracie family.
