So, last week wrestling websites were reporting that Booker T had ruffled feathers at TNA when he refused to lose a match to up-and-coming star Matt Morgan at a taping of Impact. I tend not to comment on things like this, as the truth is often difficult to get at, but this particular event has been published everywhere and, reputedly, comes from at least two different sources. Even so, everything I write here is covered by the caveat “assuming this is true”, since one never knows for sure. When Booker T left WWE in late 2007, he made it clear that a factor in his leaving had been the “politics” of the WWE, something that most interpreted to mean as an unwillingness on the part of Triple H to put Booker over. Further, on joining TNA Booker expressed a desire to help put young talent over. Given his age and experience, he felt that this was the best role for him. This isn’t me putting words into his mouth; you can check it out here:

Given all of this, I find it absolutely disgraceful that Booker would refuse to put Matt Morgan over on TV. For those who don’t watch TNA and who maybe don’t remember Morgan from his brief WWE run he is, in my opinion, one of the most promising young talents in the business today. His run in TNA has been carefully balanced and paced and has just recently brought him into the main event. He is 6’10”, powerful, athletic and articulate, not to mention the fact that he thinks a great deal about his wrestling persona and performance. At this stage of his career, a win over someone like Booker, who is at the end of his run but who still has a great deal of credibility as a main-event performer in both WCW and WWE, is imperative for Morgan. By refusing to do the job, by refusing to help legitimise the next generation, Booker is proving himself to be a true hypocrite.
