Vintage WWE. • The main event being won by Chris Jericho was pretty nuts when you consider that Ozzy pretended not to know who he was and DX treated him like a non-entity. Jericho should probably get a world title run again soon. Tonight's ECW
WWE has been starting and stopping on guys' pushes for a while. The Miz, MVP, Jack Swagger, John Morrison, and probably others I am forgetting. The latest guy to get featured prominently on Raw is Kofi Kingston, who picked up a win over Chris Jericho and managed to cut a promo on Randy Orton and...
The 7-on-7 tag team match was pretty exciting for what it was: A spot-driven, fast match with 14 guys in it. SmackDown won, which surprised the heck out of me. I guess it makes sense since they had Big Show turn on his teammates that we could have Jerishow vs. DX at Survivor Series. But if Triple H is...
Let's devote about a third of a pay-per-view to Randy Orton defending the WWE Championship against John Cena in an iron man match at Bragging Rights. Then, in the last show before the pay-per-view, have Orton defeat an opponent who doesn't fight back and have Cena get pinned in the dead cent...
Monday's edition of Raw, which will be going head-to-head with the Major League Baseball playoffs, is hosted by Snoop Dogg. The main event is John Cena vs. Triple H. For the umpteenth time.
Unless Show faced Chris Jericho, by order of Nancy O'Dell. This is not to mention that they basically re-did the match, but made it a tag team match with Legacy against Orton and Cena later in the show. This time though, Orton pounded on Cena and DiBiase inexplicably pinned Orton. Why?
• The main event was good. Well with Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Chris Jericho and Big Show, it's pretty hard for it to be bad. Of course, we had Triple H pinning Jericho, presumably to set up a tag team titles match at Bragging Rights. Having DX on multiple shows probably can be a nice ratings spike....
• I liked the main event idea of Rhodes and DiBiase taking out Triple H and then dissecting Shawn Michaels in the cell. It played to the strengths of all the guys, which would be Shawn taking a beating, Legacy double teaming, and Triple H making the dramatic comeback. Even though DX won, I thoug...
All in all, a run-of-the-mill show. I guess they are pouring a lot of their resources into the SmackDown 10th anniversary show. The main event of that is Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk against The Undertaker, John Cena and D-Generation X in Boston.
The show is at the Times Union Center in Albany. I thought about going, but decided against it since I didn't plan it out ahead of time. Besides, I am going to Hell in a Cell in Newark on Sunday, so it's not like I'm not going to a WWE show this week.
Lawler: "No. I'm correct now. DX together have never been in a Hell in a Cell match. Sure, they've been in as Shawn Michaels and Triple H." Main events on TV for this week: ECW — Christian defending the ECW title against Zack Ryder. SmackDown — Batista vs. Big Show.
• The tease of Batista's retirement, leading to his punking out of Randy Orton and subsequent match on the same show, plus his move to SmackDown, was handled well. For one, it got people to stay tuned to Raw if they wanted to see the Batista-Orton street fight. Second, it got people to tune in to...
• I didn't have much of a problem with the way John Cena won the WWE title from Randy Orton. Orton did not attempt a submission for the whole match, instead opting to handcuff Cena to the ring and punish him. In the end, Orton going for the handcuffs cost him because Cena locked a handcuffed Orton...
SUPERSTARS Submissions count anywhere: Triple H & Shawn Michaels vs. Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase Unifed tag team championship: Big Show & Chris Jericho (c) vs. MVP & Mark Henry United States Championship: Kofi Kingston (c) vs. The Miz
Everyone had these brand t-shirts on, which DID make it hard to identify them right off the bat. Edge winning the battle royal brought SmackDown Kane and Chris Jericho. Kane always moves around, but it was probably a very good move to put Jericho on SmackDown, with the cluttered main event mi...
SMACKDOWN One thing that struck me upon looking at SmackDown is that I would have rather have seen two of the things on this show involved with WrestleMania rather than on this show. • Good call by WWE to re-install Theodore Long as the general manager of SmackDown. I have no idea why Tiffany is...
RAW I guess it could be interesting if Batista gets pinned by Orton or a member of Legacy and costs Triple H the title, leading to a program between those two. At least it's Batista and not Vince McMahon. • John Cena is facing Edge for the title at Backlash. Those two have certainly faced a lot.\ ECW
Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker was wonderful and every bit of what a WrestleMania main event could be and should be. I guess, the best way, to illustrate this is, Jimmy Snuka, Roddy Piper and Mae Young all got on the main WrestleMania card. John Morrison did not.
• WWE Championship: Triple H (c) vs. Randy Orton. I find it interesting this match is going on last. Normally, you'd think that the babyface would HAVE to retain in the final match of WrestleMania to leave the fans happy. This begs the question: Is Triple H the babyface? Is Orton the heel? Triple...
The match, itself, should be good. It will be interesting, also, to see which match at WrestleMania ends up being the real "main event." I am guessing it will be Orton vs. Triple H, but I would still not be surprised to see Orton depart WrestleMania as the new champion. Happy ending or not.
WWE should finalize everything for WrestleMania on Monday because they are taping all three shows in a SuperShow format. RAW has Chris Jericho vs. Jerry Lawler and John Cena vs. Big Show. ECW has the all-divas show they have been promising. SmackDown has MVP defending the US title again Shelto...
• World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Match: Edge (c) vs. Big Show vs. John Cena. Looks like Vickie Guerrero's support could be on the line here too. Funny that this is the RAW belt, but most of the build has been on SmackDown. • The Undetaker vs. Shawn Michaels. Need I say more.
Now onto my live thoughts on RAW... • Tonight on RAW...Vladimir Kozlov & JBL vs. The Undertaker & Shawn Michaels • Whatever the consequences are for Chris Jericho's challenge of Ric Flair. • John Cena vs. Edge, non-title with Vickie Guerrero as referee? Why?
• William Regal defeated Goldust • Finlay defeated Mark Henry in a Belfast Brawl • ECW Champion Jack Swagger defeated Christian • Chris Jericho defeated Kofi Kingston • CM Punk & Shawn Michaels defeated Randy Orton & Edge when Michaels pinned Edge
• Good six-man tag with Cryme Time & CM Punk against William Regal & Legacy. I can't remember if Shad Gaspard actually got in the match or not. Punk was in peril for most of it. I hope WWE knows what it is doing with DiBiase and Rhodes. Wouldn't it make a lot of sense for Stephanie to trade Cod...
Sunday's No Way Out pay-per-view gave us a number of twists and turns on the Road to WrestleMania. I am torn over whether that is a positive or a negative. Presumably, this gives us Triple H, defending the WWE Championship and his wife's family honor, against the dastardly Royal Rumble winne...
• Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes of Legacy defeated the Cryme Time guys in fairly short order. Cody Rhodes' finisher is now called Cross Rhodes. Better than Attitude Adjuster, that's for sure. You'd think that the tag champions on RAW were Cody & Ted, but it's actually The Miz & John Mo...
• John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels, who will be representing JBL • Intercontintal championship: William Regal (c) vs. CM Punk. If Regal is disqualified, Punk wins the strap. • Randy Orton vs. Kane, which may or not be for the unrequited love of Kelly Kelly.
Having JBL and company keeping him out of the Royal Rumble makes sense too. JBL should not want him in the title mix. He should want Michaels beholden to JBL and no one else. Keeping Michaels out of the Rumble allows for him to have no shot at a WrestleMania main event payday and apparent future fi...
RAW Of course, oftentimes at the Royal Rumble, they go with a less-than-marquee main event (Brock Lesnar vs. Bob Holly and Kurt Angle vs. Mark Henry anyone?). This choice allows for the JBL-Shawn Michaels to remain in the forefront as a main issue on RAW. SMACKDOWN
So next week, it's a number one contenders fatal four-way for the Royal Rumble shot at World champion John Cena: Shawn Michaels vs. JBL vs. Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho. Three heels and a heel associate. Interesting. • I don't know where this whole Kelly Kelly thing is going really. I just hope her...
• I don't think WWE could have asked for very much more out of Triple H, Chris Jericho and Edge as they did in the triple threat match. While I might have held on to that angle until WrestleMania of Hardy taking the belt, it's an interesting step to take. Now that the story is told of Hardy winning t...
• John Cena vs. Kane was essentially a good match to get Cena back in the swing of things. Nice touch having Jericho, Orton, Manu and Rhodes band together to take him out and try and injure him again. Points deducted from WWE for having photos of John Cena today flying to Iraq on their website.
• The finish of the Team Orton vs. Team Batista match was very well-executed, gave the fans a taste of Orton vs. Batista and left you wanting a little bit more. The interaction with Cody Rhodes and Manu with Orton over the injury of their partner, Ted DiBiase, is a nice touch. They have been able to...
I seriously forgot the Survivor Series was Sunday before I watched Monday Night RAW. • The lumberjack match was pretty nice with the heels not really supporting Orton, but ultimately, helping him defeat CM Punk. The chaotic ending was again, good to promote Survivor Series.
Are they going to give us Randy Orton vs. Mike Adamle? • This video game is the only offense Miz & Morrison are going to get. They even did the job in the video game. • John Cena, idle for months, gets a title shot at Survivor Series. That sort of reeks of desperation. HERE comes Khali.
For starters, I liked that Chris Jericho and Batista got to choose each other's opponents for their matches on RAW, but they never made it clear that they got to choose their stipulations also. Jericho picking all heel lumberjacks for his lumberjack match against Shawn Michaels made sens...
• I'm sure Batista vs. Jericho will be a fun main event, but why make the fans choose between Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin. I'm not 100 percent convinced they won't pick Shawn Michaels, considering the great feud he's had with Jericho over the past few months.
In my view, the scramble matches might be crazy enough to work. Jim Ross has mentioned on his blog that Pat Patterson has had a hand in getting the scramble concept off the ground and Patterson doesn't associate himself with poor match concepts. You may remember that an idea of Patterson's ab...
Don't know if everyone heard this yet, but Triple H will also be defending the WWE Championship in a Championship Scramble at Unforgiven. There are qualifying matches on this week's SmackDown, so I won't give away who will be in them. RAW ECW
• I don't really know why they put Great Khali in the match with Triple H. The match was pretty much what everyone would expect. Triple H won. Khali did what he needed to, but is, of course, unspectacular. The injury bug recently hit SmackDown (Kennedy, Umaga). I hope Khali does not get another sho...
SUMMERSLAM It's a fairly stacked SummerSlam card when you have people like Chris Jericho, Big Show and Kane not even making it onto the card. • WWE Championship: Triple H (c) vs. The Great Khali. There is no way Triple H is NOT winning this one. Phil's pick: Triple H.
Monday's edition of RAW featured the final build for the brand's fare at this Sunday's SummerSlam PPV. While many think that the build to the second- or third-biggest pay-per-view of the WWE calendar has been haphazard and not well thought out, I just can't believe we are going into Summer...
Also, in tomorrow's Journal, there will be a feature by Brittany Perotti on Chris Bell's "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" documentary which will be premiering in Poughkeepsie on Friday. As soon as I have link information for the web version of the story, I will post it here. I will be trying to get...
The top secondary guys right now are Chris Jericho (face), Shawn Michaels (face) and Mr. Kennedy (face). That doesn't even cover ECW, where their title feud is Kane (face) vs. Big Show (face) or SmackDown!, where I can't even think of who other than Batista (who is taking time off soon) would c...
• The main event picture on RAW kind of bores me. Coincidentally, Triple H is WWE Champion. Seriously though, in my view, Cena — who never really lost the WWE title, should be in the main event. JBL has been pretty pedestrian, since coming back, yet has feuded with basically everyone in the main...
